Neon Genesis Evangelion:
Girlriend of Steel (Iron Maiden) 2nd

Review
Girlfriend of Steel 2nd is a retelling of Evangelion set in a different continuity. It began serialization in late 2003, as part of the Renewal of Evangelion celebration by Gainax, and continues to this day.

GoS 2 is the manga accompaniment to the Gainax videogame, Girlfriend of Steel 2. The game and manga are set in the "alternate world" Shinji sees and rejects at the end of the Instrumentality Project in Episode 26 of Evangelion, where Shinji lives with his mother and father, he goes to school with Asuka and Kaoru, Rei is the new girl in class, and Misato is their teacher. This started out as a romance type manga, but pretty soon got the school children into Evas and Shinji pissed at Gendou again.

Serious Gainax fans will probably run away from GoS2 in disgust. Obviously, Shinji rejecting the comfortable, but false reality at the end of the Evangelion anime remains one of the show's most powerful, mature statements, but most fans could probably enjoy GoS as a light, enjoyable manga.

I haven't read much of this series, so if anyone has and wants to send in a review, by all means.
