GAINAX memoir to be published in US!!
Noutenki
Memoir: the Men who made Evangelion, by Yasuhiro Takeda (2002,
1470 Yen) will be translated and released by ADV in May 2005! Takeda
has been a producer at Gainax off and on over the years, and originally
starred in the low-budget Daicon Film, Kaiketsu no Tenki. Info on
Kaiketsu no Tenki with tons of images of Takeda looking silly
here:
- Melody of Oblivion has finally been completely fansubbed-- a dizzying
last few episodes and a complex ending. What else would you expect?
12-22-04
- added Daicon.
lotsa great info in here, including the complete staff of the Daicon
animes in English for the first time (that took TONS of googling
in a language I don't understand!). thx to the forum guys for some
of the Daicon info.
- watching Gunbuster 2? check out this
post which details some amazing references to FLCL in Gunbuster
2.
- re-coded most of the site, which should now have a more consistent
look.
- Gainax and Bandai are co-branding a limited-edition iPod with
Apple! Limited to 2000 units, more info at Eva
Monkey:

Greetings, Gainax fans. There won't be an update
for the next two weeks cause finals are officially upon me. I'll
still be posting in the forum, though. BTW, anyone who wants the
Otaku no Video OST for Christmas should start hanging around
the forum :) Teaser Track.
-
Anno Hideaki and his wife, manga artist Mayoco
Anno, just did a cameo in Koi no Mon, a new Japanese film centering
on the love lives of Japanese otaku! Koi
no Mon official site with trailer.

- Gainax's next anime: Dear God.
Gainax is working on a 2005 anime adaptation of the manga, He is
My Master. Yes, another ecchi maid show. You can bet that Yamaga
is behind this...! Official
Site. Manga
info.
- Am 20 episodes into Nadia, and so glad i gave it a try. Truly
a Gainax classic-- along with Eva, one of the best.
- Added Otaku
no Video. In the past 2 weeks I've watched all of Gunbuster,
all of Nadia, Otaku no Video and both Daicons. Pages are coming,
but i'm finding that i have a harder time writing much about older
Gainax because: a) all i wanna say is, "it's great!",
and b) they've already been written about to death. I assume that
all older Gainax will be given the Eva/Otaku no Video treatment,
meaning shorter Gainax Pages than the recent works.

TWO MONTHS OF GAINAX PAGES! i can't believe it's been
two months already, but I'm making steady progress.
Route 20 was an aborted Gainax film after Honneamise,
later adapted to a short manga by Sadamoto-- check it out.

Just saw Re: Cutie Honey episode 3 (of 3). Wow- a classic
piece of Gainax animation. Directed by Hideaki Anno and Masayuki, the
"visual water artist" of Evangelion, so there's tons of water.
Also, Gainax references out the wazoo, as the above image shows... will
post soon with a longer review.
I'm thinking about starting a "references" page
of annotations to Re: Cutie Honey. If you noticed anything yourself,
leave a comment.

Added
Wings of Honneamise. Expect more old Gainax in the coming weeks--
I've just ordered the complete box sets of Nadia, which you can get
right now for an unbelievable $24 each at Deep
Discount DVD (use the coupon "NYTIMES" which is valid
until 11/20). You can also get the Eva Platinum volumes for $14.
In other news, Gainax Pages is finally on the first page
of Google hits for "Gainax"-- tatakae!
11-5-04
the first report is in from Anipages
on Re: Cutie Honey episode 3, an episode directed by Masayuki. Masayuki
is a longtime Gainax guy who did the subdued ED of the Evangelion show,
which featured Rei floating underwater. Masayuki later served as "visual
water artist" on End of Evangelion, according to the Red
Cross Book, and it really shows in EoE (think Eva-02 lifting up
the ship, and then the beach scene at the ending).
11-3-04
20-minute Evangelion drama track. This drama track was
included on the CD Evangelion: Addition. It features all the original
Eva cast spoofing some of the show and making fanservice jokes. Funny,
but for Eva completists only.
Tadashi Hiramatsu
Interview - complete translation by Anipages!! Hiramatsu worked
as an animation director on FLCL, character designer on Kare Kano and
Re: Cutie Honey, and storyboarded/directed the ED animation of Re: Cutie
Honey.

In other news, Gainax Pages has been live for about a
month. Not a bad start, if i may say so. In the coming months, I'm hoping
to fill in some more of the blanks, especially some of the older Gainax
works, as well as continuing coverage of Gainax's new shows.
10-22-04
Added Kono
Minikuku. Not Gainax's best anime, but...
10-16-04
Added Kare
Kano. Also, you should check out a Gainax fan video here.
10-4-04
Added some initial (SPOILER-FREE) thoughts on the first episode of Gunbuster
2. Added a video rip of Gunbuster 2's ED theme and an old Gunbuster
classic to Downloads. Also threw up a small page on Mahoromatic.
10-1-04
Big update. Added the 2004 live action film Cutie
Honey-- it's my best addition yes, so be sure to check it out. Also
added Neon Genesis Evangelion to anime.
9-30-04
Am starting to improve the site's graphics and such. Any suggestions?
9-26-04
Added Girlfriend of Steel, the video game. and some Forum additions.
9-24-04
Added FLCL.
9-22-04
Added Bushilord, although there's not much to report yet.
9-21-04
Expanded the forum into topics and added Gunbuster 2.
9-20-04
Added a phpBB Forum, which will expand with the site.
9-19-2004
Added pages for Re: Cutie Honey, Girlfriend of Steel 2nd, Downloads.
I'll probably be adding sections in order of what shows
have the least information online-- Evangelion will probably be last,
cause there's already a thousand great pages for Eva. Meanwhile, there's
a serious dearth of pages on newer shows like Melody of Oblivion and
Re: Cutie Honey and older works like Otaku no Video and Daicon.
9-18-2004
Welcome to the beta version of Gainax Pages. I hope to make some rapid
changes and additions over the coming weeks and months. It's an exciting
time for Gainax right now: we have the return of Anno Hideaki to anime
with Re: Cutie Honey, the return of Tsurumaki and the FLCL gang with
Gunbuster 2, and a continuing series, Melody of Oblivion, which is (finally!)
a worthy successor to Gainax's tradition of experimental anime.
